Quality Reporting

Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System (SVMHS) is committed to continually improving patient safety and the quality of our services. We participate in several state and national quality reporting programs to help us know our strengths and weaknesses. The information received enables SVMHS to make improvements that benefit our patients and the community.

We encourage our patients to be informed and involved in their healthcare decisions.

HOSPITAL COMPARE

Hospital Compare was created through the efforts of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Department of Health and Human Services, and other members of the Hospital Quality Alliance (HQA). The information on this website has been provided primarily by hospitals that have agreed to submit quality information for Hospital Compare to make public. This tool provides you with information on how well the hospitals care for all their adult patients with certain medical conditions or surgical procedures. This information will help you compare the quality of care hospitals provide.

HOSPITAL QUALITY

SVMHS supports transparency with our patients, employees and the communities we serve.

The California Hospital Association (CHA), in partnership with the Hospital Quality Institute (HQI), believes that transparency is critical in driving overall improvement in hospital patient safety and quality. In February 2018, HQI launched its Advancing Transparency in Hospital Quality Data project and invited every hospital in California to participate.

It is the mission of SVMHS to provide quality healthcare to our patients and to improve the health and well-being of our community, therefore we are pleased to participate in this California-wide initiative.

QUALITY TRANSPARENCY DASHBOARD

THE JOINT COMMISSION

An independent, not-for-profit organization, The Joint Commission (TJC) accredits and certifies more than 15,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States. Joint Commission accreditation and certification is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization's commitment to meeting certain performance standards.

SVMHS maintains Joint Commission Accreditation, and continues to maintain a state of survey readiness and promote a culture of safety through ongoing educational efforts and periodic review of compliance with The Joint Commission standards.

The Joint Commission’s ORYX initiative integrates outcomes and other performance measurement data into the accreditation process. ORYX measurement requirements are intended to support Joint Commission-accredited organizations in their quality improvement efforts. Performance measures are essential to the credibility of evaluation activities for health care organizations. ORYX data are publicly reported on The Joint Commission website at Quality Check®, www.qualitycheck.org. The public availability of performance measure data permits user comparisons of hospital performance at the state and national levels.

The leading accreditor of health care organizations in American, TJC, has named SVMHS a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures®.

The Joint Commission’s Top Performer program recognizes hospitals for improving performance on evidence-based interventions that positively impact healthy outcomes for patients with certain conditions. To be a Top Performer, SVMHS had to meet performance criteria based on accountability measure data and achieving cumulative performance of 95 percent or above across all reported accountability measures.

Accountability measures reflect performance on evidence-based care processes closely linked to positive patient outcomes. SVMH continues to maintain The Accountability Composite Rate above 99.5%.

“There is nothing more important than providing our patients with the very best care and this recognition validates once again, that we are among the best hospitals in the nation,” says president/CEO Pete Delgado. “Our Top Performer status is a direct result of the dedication, skills and teamwork shown by our physicians, nurses and entire staff.”

“Delivering the right treatment in the right way at the right time is a cornerstone of high-quality health care. I commend the efforts of SVMHS for their excellent performance on the use of evidence-based interventions,” said Mark R. Chassin, M.D., FACP, M.P.P., M.P.H., president and CEO, The Joint Commission.

CAL HOSPITAL COMPARE

The Cal Hospital Compare Web site is the result of a partnership between three independent organizations dedicated to improving health care quality: The California HealthCare Foundation, the University of California at San Francisco Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies, and the California Hospitals Assessment and Reporting Taskforce (CHART), a not-for-profit public benefit corporation. This site includes ratings for clinical care, patient safety, and patient experience for the more than 240 hospitals, representing over 86% of acute care hospital admissions in the state, that have chosen to participate in this important voluntary effort. At present, SVMHS is the only Monterey County hospital for which there are data.

Some hospitals provide better care than others. This site rates quality of care, patient experience, and safety measures for hospitals in your area.
