Board of Directors

Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System has a five-member, publicly-elected Board of Directors.

Elected Board Members

VICTOR REY JR. – PRESIDENT

ZONE 2

Victor Rey has worked over 15 years in Food Production Management, most of that in food safety in the Salinas Valley produce industry. He has been active in Community Service since high school and college, and before his recent appointment in 2018, Rey previously served on the Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System's Board of Directors from 2012 to 2016. He attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where he received a Bachelor of Science (Cum Laude) in Crop Science with minors in AgriBusiness and Ethnic Studies. He graduated as Salutatorian from Alisal High School in 1998. He is a Certified Professional of Food Safety via the National Environmental Health Association. In 2011, he received a Masters of Business Administration (Suma Cum Laude) from the University of Phoenix.

REGINA M. GAGE – VICE PRESIDENT

ZONE 1

Regina Gage is the Executive Director of Meals on Wheels of the Salinas Valley and former Executive Director of the Monterey County Bar Association where she worked in the non-profit sector for almost twenty years. Gage is the currently President of the Democratic Women of Monterey County and a primary committee member on the Monterey County Democratic Central Committee. She is also a member of the Steinbeck Rotary club and serves on the Board of Directors for St. Andrews Residential Programs for Youth, Inc. Gage received her Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) degree from the Monterey College of Law and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities and Political Science (Magna Cum Laude) from San Jose State University. Gage grew up in Illinois, has lived on the Central Coast for nearly two decades and lives in Prunedale.

RICHARD TURNER – TREASURER

ZONE 4

Richard Turner has over 30 years of experience as a Financial Executive. He currently works for one of the largest produce companies in the valley in a financial leadership role and has come from an agricultural community in Southwestern Iowa. Richard served as the CFO/Treasurer on the SVMHS Foundation Board of Governors for six years. In the past, he was a board member and President of the Meadows Home Owners Association in Corral de Tierra. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.

NORM NELSON, MD – SECRETARY

ZONE 5

Norm Nelson, MD, grew up in the Midwest. Dr. Nelson received his medical degree from Washington University Medical School in St. Louis, MO and his bachelor’s degree from DePauw University in Greencastle, IN. He completed his residency and internship in the U.S Navy. From 1979-2014, Dr. Nelson held several positions on the SVMH Medical Staff including Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics-Gynecology, Chief of the Medical Staff, and President of The Board of Governors of SVMH Foundation. He and his wife, Rin, try hard to keep up with their many, many children. Rin has enjoyed working at the hospital for many years and is currently working on the Mother-Baby unit. In his leisure time, Dr. Nelson enjoys the outdoors, including activities with his horses and dogs.
