Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System has a five-member, publicly-elected Board of Directors.

Important notice: Board appointment application

Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System (SVMHS) is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the Board of Directors. This position fills the unexpired term of the previous incumbent. Salinas Valley Memorial is a public district Healthcare System and is governed by a publicly elected Board of Directors, each serving a staggered, four-year term, and each representing a specific zone within the district. Board members receive a $100 stipend for each meeting attended with a maximum of $500 per month.

The appointee must be a registered voter and a resident of the Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System District Zone 5.

Board meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of each month except for the months of November and December, when meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month.

The Board of Directors intends to make the appointment on June 24, 2020 at 5:00pm. Elected Board Members

VICTOR REY JR. – PRESIDENT

ZONE 2

Appointed September 27, 2018 – December 4, 2020

Victor Rey has worked over 15 years in Food Production Management, most of that in food safety in the Salinas Valley produce industry. He has been active in Community Service since high school and college, and before his recent appointment in 2018, Rey previously served on the Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System's Board of Directors from 2012 to 2016. He attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where he received a Bachelor of Science (Cum Laude) in Crop Science with minors in AgriBusiness and Ethnic Studies. He graduated as Salutatorian from Alisal High School in 1998. He is a Certified Professional of Food Safety via the National Environmental Health Association. In 2011, he received a Masters of Business Administration (Suma Cum Laude) from the University of Phoenix.

REGINA M. GAGE – VICE PRESIDENT

ZONE 1

Seated December 7, 2018 – December 2, 2022

Regina Gage is the Executive Director of Meals on Wheels of the Salinas Valley and former Executive Director of the Monterey County Bar Association where she worked in the non-profit sector for almost twenty years. Gage is the currently President of the Democratic Women of Monterey County and a primary committee member on the Monterey County Democratic Central Committee. She is also a member of the Steinbeck Rotary club and serves on the Board of Directors for St. Andrews Residential Programs for Youth, Inc. Gage received her Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) degree from the Monterey College of Law and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities and Political Science (Magna Cum Laude) from San Jose State University. Gage grew up in Illinois, has lived on the Central Coast for nearly two decades and lives in Prunedale.

RICHARD TURNER – TREASURER

ZONE 4

Seated December 7, 2018 – December 2, 2022

Richard Turner has over 30 years of experience as a Financial Executive. He currently works for one of the largest produce companies in the valley in a financial leadership role and has come from an agricultural community in Southwestern Iowa. Richard served as the CFO/Treasurer on the SVMHS Foundation Board of Governors for six years. In the past, he was a board member and President of the Meadows Home Owners Association in Corral de Tierra. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.

ZONE 5 - VACANT

Norm Nelson, MD, recently passed away unexpectedly. The process to fill the vacancy on our board has now begun with SVMHS accepting applications from interested candidates who meet the residency requirements. See information above. As we shared at the time of Dr. Nelson’s passing, our thoughts are with his friends and family. We strongly value his service and contributions.
