Heart Month 2021


February is American Heart Month and Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System wants to make sure you stay active, educated and healthy. Here are our heart-focused events for the month!

We are celebrating Heart Month with a variety of FREE virtual Ask the Experts events.

Usefulness of the WATCHMAN device to prevent strokes; Indication for AFib ablation

On Friday, February 12th at 1pm join cardiac electrophysiologist Dr. Harlan Grogin, MD as he focuses on the WATCHMAN, an FDA approved cardiac implant proven to significantly reduce stroke risk from Atrial Fibrillation not caused by a heart valve problem. Dr. Grogin will also discuss indication for AFib ablation.

Heart Healthy Meals Cooking Demonstration

On Wednesday, February 17, join SVMHS cardiologist Christopher Oh, MD and Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital Nutrition Services Director and Executive Chef Jason Giles for a cooking demonstration and discussion of heart healthy foods and cooking techniques that help reduce your risk of heart disease.

Explaining the TAVR Procedure

On Wednesday, February 24 join interventional cardiologist Patrik Zetterlund, MD and cardiothoracic surgeon Andreas Sakopoulos, MD as they host an interactive presentation on the non-invasive Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement procedure also known as TAVR. TAVR is an alternative for open heart surgery for people with aortic stenosis which can lead to heart failure.
