SALINAS, CA, October 12, 2018- Three Board certified physicians specializing in Pulmonary Medicine, Thoracic
and Cardiac Surgery and Hematology and Oncology are taking part in the
latest Ask The Experts event hosted by Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare
System (SVMHS). The free community event on Wednesday October 17th is a unique interactive evening with physicians demonstrating the latest
advanced technology for the early detection of lung cancer.
“Every year, more people die of lung cancer than colon, breast and
prostate cancers combined, we want to change that,” says Pete Delgado,
President/CEO of Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System. “Advancements
in technology are allowing us to detect lung cancer at an early stage
and this is a game changer for the successful treatment of this disease.
Our physicians are on the cutting edge of lung cancer medical treatment
and look forward to sharing their knowledge with the community.”
Board certified physicians Geetha Varma, MD, Mario Cole, MD and Patrick
Griffith, MD, FACS are the featured speakers at this Lung Cancer forum.
Each physician will address a specific area of interest when it comes
to prevention, screening, detection, surgery and treatment.
“Effective intervention can reduce the risk of lung cancer,”
says Geetha Varma, MD. “Current and former smokers are at a higher
risk of developing lung cancer as they age. Usually symptoms don’t
appear until the disease is already at an advanced, non-curable stage.
We urge people who currently smoke or who have already quit to attend
this educational event, it could save their lives.”
Prior to the main program, SVMHS registered Respiratory Care Practitioners
will conduct interactive presentations on the dangers of vaping, its long
term health effects and why vaping is now considered an epidemic among
teenagers. On display will be different kinds of vaping devices and e-cigarettes
including some which resemble thumb drives that parents should be aware of.
