Salinas Valley Health earned another consecutive “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for Fall 2021. This is the fifth consecutive “A” during a clinical, evidence-based review of patient safety metrics.

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization announced today it awarded Salinas Valley Health the highest letter grade possible in the Fall 2021 Hospital Safety Score, which rates how well hospitals prevent medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care.

“COVID-19 has tested healthcare systems like never before, and over the past two years, it has been a sustained test of our infrastructure, people and processes,” says Pete Delgado, President/CEO of Salinas Valley Health. “The consistent “A” when it comes to patient safety is a testament to the resilience and dedication of our entire team. It serves as yet more evidence of our commitment to providing the highest and safest level of care to our patients and community.”

The Leapfrog Group assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to nearly three thousand facilities across the country based on over thirty national performance measures reflecting errors, injuries, accidents and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

“An ‘A’ Safety Grade is a tremendous achievement, of which this community should be extremely proud,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I thank the leadership and workforce of Salinas Valley Health for its commitment to prioritizing patients and their safety, especially during these trying times.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harms to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
