Salinas Valley Health joins with many community organizations, groups and individuals mourning the loss of Alfred Diaz-Infante. Alfred spent his life as a public servant and Salinas Valley Health was honored with his two years of service on the Healthcare System’s Board of Directors. He always stayed connected with his family’s farmworker roots and his knowledge and genuine kindness provided him with great insight into the needs and challenges of underserved populations. Salinas Valley Health’s President/CEO Pete Delgado has expressed his deep condolences to the Diaz-Infante family. “I’m deeply saddened by the sudden loss of a dear friend and respected pillar of our community. Alfred was devoted to his family and to making life better for others. He was one of those rare individuals who served as both passionate advocate and thoughtful leader, and always acted with compassion and conviction. From housing to education and healthcare, Alfred was a powerful force for change without ever raising his voice. Our thoughts are with his cherished wife Elvira and their three children.”

Alfred was most widely known for his more than two decades of dedication to creating affordable housing at CHISPA, Inc. (Community Housing Improvement Systems and Planning Association). As President/CEO, he was a driving force of meaningful policy change and building access to homes and apartments for low and moderate income people in the tri-county region. His collaborative style and action-for-good attitude expanded far beyond his role at CHISPA and he was a widely respected community leader on many issues of importance.

As Treasurer of Salinas Valley Health Board of Directors Diaz-Infante was instrumental in building a system of increased access to quality healthcare with his support of our Salinas Valley Health Taylor Farms Family Health & Wellness Center, the Salinas Valley Health Salinas Valley Health Mobile Clinic, our substantial partnership with Hartnell College’s Nursing Program and sponsorship of Blue Zones Project Monterey County. As a board member, Alfred always studied the issues, listened to his colleagues, staff and the public and made thoughtful, knowledge-based decisions.

His approach and commitment to creating positive change was evident in his service on many civic minded boards. He was generous with his time and talents, giving both to numerous charitable organizations and causes. Alfred was recognized with awards for his many achievements however his most cherished role was as husband and a father, who raised three beautiful children instilled with similar character and dedication to community.

Although his time was too short, Alfred Diaz-Infante leaves behind a lasting legacy as a true leader, a man of action and optimism for a better future for all people.
