Medical Center leaders speak out together with one voice

Wearing a mask is a simple, but highly effective, action that almost all of us can take to help stop the spread of COVID-19. That was the message recently from an event that featured representatives from all four of the hospitals in Monterey County.
The CEOs and Chief Medical Officers from Salinas Valley Health, Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, Natividad Medical Center (NMC) and Mee Memorial Healthcare System joined together at a special event to announce the “Mask Up Monterey County” messaging campaign that will reinforce the need for county residents to wear a mask to protect themselves and others.
The importance of the joint message from the four hospitals is underscored by the fact that Monterey County needs to make better progress on preventing the virus from spreading. Due to a persistently high positivity rate for COVID-19, many businesses remain closed or are only offering limited services. In addition, hospitalization rates have been high for the past two months.
“We need the public's help to fight this nasty, sneaky virus. Without that kind of help we'll see more hospitalizations unnecessarily and, unfortunately, more deaths,” says Pete Delgado, President/CEO at Salinas Valley Health. “Working with the other hospitals on this shared message is an important step. We need to make sure people stay vigilant.”
