SALINAS, CA, November 6, 2018- Tricia Deblois, RN is the October recipient of the DAISY Award at Salinas Valley Health. Salinas Valley Health participates in the national DAISY Award program, which celebrates compassionate and skillful nursing care. Deblois is a registered nurse for Labor & Delivery.

“This is such a nice surprise!” says Tricia Deblois, RN. “It’s great to be recognized, we work as a team and we go above and beyond providing the best medical and compassionate care possible to our patients. We’re not just affecting the patient, we’re making an impact on their family and friends. I feel so blessed that I’m a nurse.”

Deblois joined Salinas Valley Health in 1990 as a registered nurse for the Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Since then, she has worked in various departments including Mother/Baby and Labor & Delivery. A colleague nominated Deblois for the DAISY award for the compassionate care she provided an out-of-town patient. The patient was from the Redding area and was forced to evacuate because of a wildfire burning near her home. She came to Salinas to stay with family and get away from the dangerously smoky air quality. The timing wasn’t ideal because the woman was scheduled to have a repeat C-section the next day. When the patient reached out for medical care, Deblois went out of her way to connect the displaced woman with a physician and arrange for an appointment.

“Tricia’s actions had a profound impact on the life of that patient,” says Christie Gonder, RN, Chief Nursing Officer. “The patient to be was under a tremendous amount of stress and Tricia went above and beyond to support her so she could focus on bringing her child in to the world in a safe environment under the care of exceptional medical providers”.

Deblois will be recognized by the publicly elected Board of Directors at its November board meeting. The following employees were also nominated for the October DAISY Award: Linnea Alvarez, RN, Kathleen Blazek, RN, Natalia Gonzalez, RN, Jessica Schloemer, RN, Sofia Vargas, RN, and Laura Welch, RN.

Every month, Salinas Valley Health recognizes an outstanding employee with a DAISY Award (for nurses) or a STAR Award (for all staff). Nominations can be submitted by patients, visitors and staff. Nomination forms and drop boxes are located throughout the medical center.
