Free Salinas Valley Health Ask the Experts Event

SALINAS, CA, October 4, 2017 – The latest Ask the Experts presentation by Salinas Valley Health (Salinas Valley Health) is an informative evening focused on a cancer and topic many people like to avoid – colon cancer. The expert panel includes three physicians specializing in hematology, oncology, gastroenterology and general surgery. The free event on Thursday, October 5th focuses on colorectal cancer, prevention, treatment and surgeries. Prior to the program start, free flu shots and appetizers are available.

“Colon Cancer is one of the most preventable and least prevented cancers,” says Pete Delgado, President/CEO of Salinas Valley Health. “We have a commitment to the community to change that trend. We want to empower people with the knowledge and resources to keep them healthy.”

Board certified physicians Tarun Bajaj, MD, General Surgeon, Michael Mendoza, MD, Gastroenterologist and Hong Zhao, MD, Hematologist and Oncologist are the featured speakers. Each physician will address a specific area of interest when it comes to the deadly disease and simple prevention tools.

“Early detection is key to surviving colon or rectum cancer,” says Hong Zhao, MD. “Colon cancer develops slowly and usually there are no symptoms in its early stage, which is why colorectal screenings are extremely important - they save lives. We want to inform people on the risks, such as family history, lack of exercise, nutrition and excessive alcohol use.”

The Ask the Experts Colon Cancer presentation will take place Thursday, October 5th. Doors open at 5pm for appetizers, health information fair and free flu shots. Location is the Salinas Valley Health Advanced Imaging, 5 Lower Ragsdale in Monterey. Seating is limited. RSVP is required. Please call 831-757-1890 or register on line at svmh.com/asktheexperts. Spanish language interpreter and listening equipment available upon request during free ticket reservation.
