Nutrition & Environmental Services Supervisor at SVMHS Receives Star Award

SALINAS, CA, December 6, 2018- Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System (SVMHS) has recognized Charles Gerhard Jr. with the STAR Award for his work ethic and for always going above and beyond to support his staff. Gerhard Jr. is a Nutrition and Environmental Services (NES) Supervisor. Gerhard Jr. exemplifies the SVMHS STAR values- Support, Teamwork, Accountability and Respect. Several members of Gerhard Jr.’s staff nominated him for the STAR recognition.

“I enjoy being part of an organization where everyone makes a difference in the lives of patients,” says Charles Gerhard Jr., NES Supervisor. “It’s a great feeling when your team appreciates and respects you as much as you appreciate and respect them.”

Gerhard Jr. joined SVMHS in 2013 as a temporary NES supervisor and became a permanent employee later that year. Eight colleagues nominated Gerhard Jr. for the STAR Award which he received in a special ceremony at the hospital. One colleague expressed Gerhard Jr. manages his team with respect and dignity and team members enjoy working with him. The publicly elected Board of Directors will recognize Gerhard Jr. during the Board’s December meeting.

“Charles is an outstanding supervisor,” says Christa McDowell, Assistant Director Environmental & Nutrition Services. “He leads by example, cares about his staff and always goes out of his way to make sure they have everything they need to successfully accomplish their goals. He’s a great leader.”

Three other outstanding employees received STAR Award nominations including: Elida Mosqueda, Janet Rubio and Norma Torres. Every month, Salinas Valley Memorial recognizes an outstanding employee with a STAR Award (for all staff) or a DAISY Award (for nurses).
