The latest Ask the Experts presentation by Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare
System (SVMHS) is an informative and interactive evening with four cardiac
specialists who will celebrate February Heart Month in a unique way. The
free event on Thursday, February 16 focuses on heart health and includes
food, valuable information, engaging demonstrations and giveaways.
“This will be an extraordinary heart health presentation,”
says Pete Delgado, President/CEO of Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare
System. “People who attend this free event will go home with a deeper
understanding about the importance of caring for their heart and see firsthand
how our team uses advanced technology to treat heart problems.”
Board certified cardiac specialists Vincent DeFilippi, MD, FACS, Harlan
Grogin, MD, FACC, Christopher Oh, MD, FACC, and Steven Regwan, DO, FACC
are featured speakers. The audience will rotate in groups to each of the
unique presentations. Dr. DeFilippi has performed more than five thousand
heart surgeries during his career and is consistently named one of America’s
Top Doctors by Castle Connolly. He will give the audience an operating
room like demonstration of how he repairs and replaces a heart valve while
explaining the benefits of this procedure.
The other topics will be equally fascinating as Dr. Grogin shows the audience
one option for treating the heart condition atrial fibrillation or AFib.
Dr. Grogin will illustrate how he performs ablation therapy and describe
how the technique can help fix an irregular heartbeat. This demonstration
features mapping and insertion of catheters into a heart. Dr. Regwan will
access the heart through the wrist via the radial artery and insert a
catheter into the heart for an important diagnostic cardiac test. Dr.
Oh’s has teamed up with Taylor Farms to focus on how the right food
can be powerful medicine in supporting a healthy heart and even reversing
heart disease.
“We will be performing several procedures including heart valve
surgery using a pig’s heart,” says Vincent DeFilippi, MD,
FACS, Director of Cardiac Surgery at SVMHS. “Our guests will see
for themselves procedures that save lives. It will be a remarkable evening.”
