Accepting new patients.

Kanae Mukai, MD believes in a holistic approach to care, taking time to
understand each patient’s perspective and identifying ways to improve
physical and emotional quality of life. She considers patients to be extensions
of her family, and works to establish and maintain lasting relationships
built on mutual trust and respect. During her undergraduate years, she
was drawn to the intellectual rigor of engineering and worked in the semiconductor
imaging industry for several years. A childhood awe of the physicians
who treated her mother when she had cancer and the inspiration of her
grandmother, a spiritual teacher, instilled a yearning for a career with
more meaningful personal interactions.

Dr. Mukai found the perfect combination of scientific deduction, innovation
and human interaction in medicine and earned her medical degree from Chicago
Medical School in 2009. She completed her residency in internal medicine
at Mayo Clinic, and fellowships in general cardiology and integrative
cardiology at Scripps Clinic. She has completed several subspecialty fellowships
including: MRI at Duke University, as well as cardiac CT, MRI, Nuclear
Cardiology, and echocardiography at University of California, San Francisco
(UCSF). She has also completed advanced training in cardiac MRI at the
University of Oxford and in cardiac CT at UCLA and at Johns Hopkins University.
She holds Level III certification in all cardiovascular imaging modalities
including cardiac MRI (Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance),
cardiac CT (Society of Cardiovascular CT), nuclear cardiology (American
Society of Nuclear Cardiology), and echocardiography (American Society
of Echocardiography). She has board certification from the American Board
of Internal Medicine, American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine,
National Board of Echocardiography, and Certification Board of Nuclear
Cardiology. She is a member of the teaching faculty at UC San Francisco.

Fluent in English, Japanese and French, Dr. Mukai is married and enjoys
running, listening to jazz and creating beaded jewelry in her spare time.
