The parents of Albert Doornik, MD immigrated to the U.S. from Holland in
1956 and he was born in Chicago two years later. His father believed that
the key to success in the new country was education and Dr. Doornik became
the first in his family to graduate from college. He went on to earn his
medical degree from Loyola University of Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine
in 1986. He completed his general surgery internship and orthopedic surgery
residency at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center.
Today, he combines compassion and state-of-the-art technologies, specializing
in diagnosing and treating knee and shoulder disorders. His ultimate goal,
and reward, is helping patients get back to normal activities as quickly
and painlessly as possible. Dr. Doornik is board certified in sports medicine
and orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He’s
retained his fluency in Dutch, a second language spoken in his childhood
home. He and his college sweetheart have been married for more than 30
years and have two grown daughters.
Dr. Doornik and his family enjoy traveling and experiencing different cultures.
Most of his leisure activities revolve around his church where he has
taught Sunday school, served as a junior high camp counselor, hosted camp-outs
and pool parties on their property, and chaired a major building campaign.
