About the provider

Dr. Rene Colorado is a board certified vascular neurologist and the medical director for the Stroke Center at Salinas Valley Health. Dr. Colorado earned his medical degree as well as his doctorate of philosophy degree from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston and completed his neurology residency through Harvard Medical School at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham Women’s Hospital. Dr. Colorado also completed a fellowship in Vascular Neurology at The University of California, San Francisco Medical Center. Dr. Colorado is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association. Dr. Colorado is a Principal Investigator for Clinical Research and Clinical Trials here at Salinas Valley Health.

He enjoys teaching the next generation of medical professionals and is active in teaching medical residents and students and trainees of allied health careers. He is also an active researcher with multiple peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters. His greatest joy comes from treating patients and his approach to patient care is centered on effective doctor-patient communication. Dr. Colorado is fluent in English and Spanish. He and his family reside in Salinas and enjoy spending time outdoors together hiking, playing soccer, kitesurfing, sailing and traveling to new places.
