Emergency treatments to limit the risk of disability from stroke are available
but underutilized. A practical stroke patient assessment tool suitable
for routine use by EMS personnel & nurses is essential.
In 1997, the University of Miami Center for Research in Medical Education
developed a hands-on how-to course for health professionals:
- Developed by experts in stroke, emergency medicine, prehospital care, nursing,
- Used to train thousands of EMS personnel, nurses, and physicians from over
100 institutions across the U.S.
- Provides a unique neurologic assessment tool ideal for both prehospital
and hospital use.
- Consistent with Joint Commission Stroke Center criteria and the AHA/ASA
This comprehensive course covers stroke from arrival at the patient’s
home to discharge from the hospital with emphasis on understand stroke
location related to symptoms.
