Monterey County is located on the Central Coast of California and is home to the spectacular Big Sur coastline and the rich, fertile Salinas Valley. We are just two hours from San Francisco, and within driving distance of Lake Tahoe and Los Angeles. Just down the road are the vineyards of Napa and Sonoma and Monterey County has also established itself as one of the world's premier wine-producing regions. There are 17 golf courses here, which is why our area is a world-class destination. With 10 colleges and universities within a 40-mile radius, we are also a center of higher education. In addition there is an endless variety of recreational and cultural activities including the National Steinbeck Center located in the heart of charming Old Town Salinas and the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium on the water in Monterey. Racing fans flock to Laguna Seca. The Monterey County Fairgrounds are an annual pilgrimage for jazz lovers and fans of the world renowned Monterey Jazz Festival.
