SALINAS, CA December 5, 2012 — The Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System CEO search committee will re-open its nationwide search for a permanent President/CEO.
“We are encouraged by the number of qualified candidates with whom we’ve spoken over the last few weeks,” said Jim Gattis, president of the Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System Board of Directors. “We’ve decided to re-open our search because the people who we thought were the best fit for our hospital and community had other opportunities before them.”
The executive recruitment climate in healthcare is challenging right now. Healthcare recruitment experts report a high number of vacancies at the executive level.
“Finding the next leader of Salinas Valley Memorial is critical to our long-term success, and we can’t rush this decision, “ said Gattis. “We will take the necessary time to undergo a thorough process so we find someone who has the right vision and experience and can agree to a financially responsible contract that is in line with other hospitals like ours.”
The CEO search committee interviewed five candidates and decided to more carefully consider two of those candidates. Both candidates received other offers of employment and are no longer available.
The committee, comprised of three physicians and five board members, will continue to work through the recruitment firm of Witt/Kieffer.
