SALINAS, CA, July 23, 2009 - Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System received high scores in this year's issue of "America's Best Hospitals" survey by US News and World Report. The annual issue ranks hospitals in 16 specialties, using criteria such as patient safety, nurse staffing and technology. Salinas Valley Memorial compared well to other hospitals in Northern California.

Heart & Heart Surgery: Salinas Valley Memorial offers all 7 of the surveyed patient services in heart care such as Cardiac rehabilitation, patient-controlled analgesia and wound-management services. Also, key technologies were cited such as robotic surgery and multi-slice spiral CT and PET/CT scanners. Salinas Valley Memorial is the only hospital in Monterey County to offer robotically-assisted heart surgery. The Harden Memorial Regional Heart Program has a rich history of excellence spanning more than 20-years.
Orthopedics: Key technologies such as computer-assisted orthopedic surgery were cited in the US News and World Report survey. Salinas Valley Memorial also scored well in patient services for orthopedics. With a comprehensive service line that includes pre-surgical patient education, minimally-invasive procedures and advanced technologies, orthopedics has seen a dramatic increase in volume at Salinas Valley Memorial.
Cancer: Key technologies and patient services received strong scores, with robotic surgery and digital mammography among the technologies surveyed in the cancer service line. Accredited by the American College of Surgeons as a Comprehensive Cancer Center since 1987, Salinas Valley Memorial's program offers a full spectrum of cancer services. Later this year a new Women's Health Center will open on the SVMHS campus, offering a full line of breast health care to the women of our region.
Neurology & Neurosurgery: Salinas Valley Memorial neurosurgery services feature all 5 of the key technologies surveyed by US News and World Report, including image-guided radiation therapy and stereotactic radiosurgery.
