SALINAS, CA, January 18, 2014 - The community-wide flu clinic at Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System (SVMHS) was a huge success. Families throughout Monterey County came to SVMHS this morning to receive the free flu vaccination.
SVMHS partnered with the Monterey County Health Department to provide state funded flu vaccine to families who had not yet been vaccinated this flu season. Volunteer nurses and staff at SVMHS mobilized to put on the flu clinic. More than one thousand doses of flu vaccine were delivered to adults, children and infants.
The free clinic comes as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) notes 35 states are reporting widespread illness due to the flu, up from 25 in the previous week. The vaccine this year is proving to be a good match to protect against the flu stains circulating this season, including H1N1.
