The Norman P. Andresen, MD, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), a $2.2-million, community-funded, 4,000-square-foot, eight-bed facility filled with equal parts cutting edge technology and uncompromised compassion.
This spacious, Level II NICU, with its white walls and soothing teal and purple touches, is designed for premature and/or seriously ill babies with critical, longer-term needs such as respiratory assistance, nutritional support, and developmental evaluation. That's about one in every five babies born. The new NICU isn't just designed for the babies, though, it's for their families, too.
Our family-centered care provides expanded visitation for siblings and other family members. This unit provides access for families not only to their babies, but to learning about their babies. We're sensitive to the need that parents should be fully informed and trained as they go along.
Family education includes classes, support groups and informative materials from outside sources such as Stanford. These are just a few of the advantages of this roomy, state-of-the-art NICU.
The NICU is customized for privacy and preference. Curtains can be pulled around each bed to provide families a quiet space with their babies. In addition to spacious, personal surroundings, the noise, lighting and traffic patterns can be controlled in an individualized fashion as the needs of each area vary throughout the unit.
Our goal is to provide a developmentally sensitive environment.
