The state-of-the-art NICU was named in honor of the late Norman P. Andresen, MD a physician who delivered babies in the Salinas Valley community for 45 years. A premature, underweight baby himself, he grew to become a strapping 6-foot-3-inch athlete, Dr. Andresen was a strong proponent of a fully equipped NICU where premature and seriously ill babies can undergo advanced treatment in their own community.
