Service League
Our Mission
The Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital Service League is an integral component of Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System. Our purpose is to provide a competent, efficient and caring volunteer staff that offers an extra dimension of care and service to patients, families, visitors, staff and support services for the Hospital and community as approved by the Chief Executive Officer and Board of Directors.
Message from the President
I'm delighted to tell you a bit about our Service League, which was organized in 1952. The faces of our Service League members may be changing, but the basic desire to give something very special back to our community is shared by all and the reward we receive is the appreciation shown to us by those we serve and the many "thank yous" we hear each day.
Over the past fifty years, Service League Volunteers have given over 2,101,890 hours of service to the hospital. If we were to assign a value of $15.00 per hour, this contribution has the equivalent of well over $31,528,350! We have averaged 40,000 hours per year—at that rate, we have given the equivalent in service hours of $630,000.00 per year in addition to our hard cash contributions of $2.5million to the hospital and the Foundation. This would not be possible without a wonderful dedicated group of volunteers and the support of the Hospital Administration and Volunteer Services staff. Service League Volunteers continue to provide high impact services to the patients, visitors, and staff of Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital, and we are proud of our contributions.
There are great many ways in which you may serve as member today, and I urge you to explore our program and see how a little of your time can make a big difference for your community.
~ Merle Fraser, Service League President
