Mother/Baby Activities

Baby Moon Lactation Center: 529 Central Avenue, Pacific Grove, (831) 402-1666. Offers free breastfeeding support groups for new moms. Breastfeeding rentals, consultations and personal care items are available as well.

Infant and Parent Communication and Massage: Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital, 450 E. Romie Lane, Salinas, (831) 753-2229

Parents Place: Pacific Grove Adult School, 1025 Lighthouse Avenue, Pacific Grove, (831) 646-6623. Provides parent education through parent/child interaction for children ages 0-3. Offers additional classes for parents of multiples and post partum support groups.

Partners in Play: Salinas Adult School, 20 Sherwood Place, Salinas, (831) 796-6900. Class for parents and babies ages 2 years old and 9 months to 4 years old.

Stroller Strides Monterey County: Kelly San Filippo 1-800-676-1045, info@strollerstrides.com. Stroller Strides is a total fitness program for moms and their babies. Activities include power walking and body toning, both taught by certified instructors.

Children’s Day Care Services

Children’s Service International (MAOF): 705 California Street, Salinas, (831) 424-6939, 1-800-273-0274 Fax (831) 424-3346. Subsidized daycare program assists low-income families with childcare costs.

Marina Children’s Center: 261 Beach Road, Marina, (831) 384-7952, Fax (831) 384-8526. Full day childcare for low-income families who are working or attending school in the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District.

Mexican American Opportunities Foundation Childcare Center (MAOF): 61 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas, (831) 757-0753, Fax (831) 757-1652. Childcare services for low-income families.

 

EDUCATION

Monterey County Office of Education: Headstart Program: 1145 Acosta Street, Salinas, (831) 769-0907, Fax (831) 771-9132. Provides consultation, assessments and support services such as Early Intervention and Head Start for children from birth to age 5 years old who have been diagnosed with a disability.

San Andreas Regional Center: 344 Salinas Street, Suite 207, Salinas, (831) 759-7500, Fax (831) 424-3007. Provides consultation, assessments and support services for children from birth to 21 years old who have been previously diagnosed with a disability (i.e. autism, epilepsy, mental retardation or cerebral palsy).

 

INSURANCE/MEDICAL SUPPORT SERVICES

Access for Infants and Mothers (AIM): www.aim.ca.gov, 1-800-433-2611. Provides health insurance for mid-level-income pregnant women who are residents of California.

California Children’s Services: 1615 Bunker Hill Way, Suite 190 Salinas, (831) 755-4747. Statewide program that assists eligible children and young adults up to age 21 with medical care, equipment, and rehabilitation.

Central Coast Pediatric Dental Group: 633 E. Alvin Drive, Salinas, (831) 443-1177, 424-0641, www.centralcoastpediatricdentalgroup.com. Dental care services for infants, children and teenagers.

Child Health and Disability Prevention Program (CHDP): 1615 Bunker Hill Way, Suite 190, Salinas, (831) 755-4960. Provides no-cost periodic health exams and care coordination for children up to age 21 who are covered by Medi-Cal, and children up to age 19 in households with incomes that fall under 200 percent of the federal poverty level.

Child Lead Poisoning Prevention Program (CLPPP): 1615 Bunker Hill Way, Suite 190, Salinas, (831) 755-4648. California Department of Public Health provides education on the dangers of lead poisoning and resources to help prevent injury.

Coastal Kids Home Care: 1020 Merrill Street, Suite 2015, Salinas, 1-800-214-5439. Licensed home healthcare agency that provides services to children and young adults from birth to 21 years old, and OB patients.

Community Oral Health Services: 128 E. Alisal Avenue, Salinas, (831) 422-6889. Provides dental care for children ages 1 to 18 and pregnant women of all ages.

Healthy Families: www.healthyfamilies.ca.gov, 1-800-880-5305. Low cost insurance providing health, dental and vision coverage for children who do not have health insurance and do not qualify for full scope Medi-Cal.

High Risk Infant Follow Up: Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford, (650) 725-8995. Satellite Office for High Risk Infant Follow Up: Dominican Rehabilitation Services, 610 Frederick Street, Santa Cruz,(831) 457-7183

Medi Cal Insurance: 1000 S. Main Street, Suite 216, Salinas, (831) 755-8500. State and federally funded health insurance program for children, single parents, seniors and people with disabilities in Monterey County.

Monterey County Health Department (Immunization Program): 1270 Natividad Road, Salinas, (831) 755-4514, (831) 796-1280. Provides immunization for children up to age 18 who do not have medical insurance coverage or a physician.

Vantage Eye Center: 622 Abbott Street, Salinas, (831) 771-3937

WIC (Women Infants and Children): 632 E. Alisal Street, Salinas, (831) 796-2888. Provides supplemental food, healthcare referrals and nutritioneducation for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age 5 who are found to be at nutritional risk.
