Treadmill Stress Test

A Treadmill Stress Test records the heart's electrical activity (rate and rhythm) during exercise. With electrodes on the chest the patient walks on a motorized treadmill. As the speed and incline of the treadmill are gradually increased the doctor looks for changes in the EKG pattern and for any symptoms that the patient may experience. Depending on the patient's level of recovery and cardiovascular conditioning, the treadmill test may last up to 15 minutes if there are no signs of exhaustion or chest pain. From start to finish you should allow about 30 minutes. A doctor must order the test.
