Knee replacement is a surgical procedure where damaged bone and cartilage is removed from the surface of the knee joint and replaced with a metal & plastic implant. Knee replacement surgery is typically recommended to patients whose knees have not responded to other treatments and are still suffering from pain during normal activities. A successful knee replacement will relieve knee pain and allow you to be more active.
Knee Replacement Diagnosis
X-rays can be used to help determine the level of degeneration to the knee joint and will reveal any bone defects or deformities. Our board certified physicians will also assess the damage to the knee joint through a comprehensive physical examination of the knee and patient history. To get a more detailed view of the knee our physicians may schedule a Magnetic Resonance Imaging scan (MRI) for you. This gives a clearer view of how the knee is being impacted by the damage.
Advanced Knee Replacement Diagnosis
Knee replacement can be performed using minimally invasive surgery techniques with small incisions. By using precise instruments, the incision(s) need only be big enough to have the damaged cartilage & bone removed and new implants inserted. Benefits of these minimally invasive knee replacement procedures will include less pain after surgery. Less cutting allows for quicker recovery and less time for knee rehabilitation.
