Harlan Grogin, MD, FACC
Dr. Grogin is Medical Director of the Cardiac Wellness Center. He joined Central Coast Cardiology and the medical staff at Salinas Valley Memorial in February 1995. Soon after, he established SVMHS's Electrophysiology Program and is the program's medical director. He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and electrophysiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Grogin is active in clinical research trials that give patients access to new therapies, devices and medications that may be more effective than traditional methods. He also trains other cardiologists on implantation procedures, including the specialized devices used for people with congestive heart failure. Dr. Grogin received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Barnes Hospital, Washington University Medical Center, St. Louis. He was a cardiology fellow at Stanford University Medical Center and a fellow in electrophysiology at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Grogin lives in Salinas with his wife and two children and in his spare time, enjoys a variety of outdoor activities.
Elizabeth Cantu, MA, EP
Elizabeth is a Certified Medical Exercise Specialist and member of the American Academy of Health, Fitness and Rehab Professionals. She is also a Certified Personal Trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Wellness has been a life long journey for Elizabeth and she looks forward to helping others achieve their goals of optimal health and wellness. She has a Master in Arts in Special Education from San Jose State University. Elizabeth enjoys running outdoors or riding her bike in the hills of the former Fort Ord with her dog Smokey. She also enjoys volunteering her time for various worthy causes.
Shirley Chung, RN, MA, EP
Shirley has been a team leader at the Cardiac Wellness Center at SVMHS since its inception in 2003. She is a Certified Clinical Exercise Specialist and member of the American College of Sports Medicine. She is also a member of several professional organizations including the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, California Society for Cardiac Rehabilitation, and the National Strength and Conditioning Association. She combines her clinical nursing background and experience with an advanced degree in Exercise Physiology to provide education, care and support to individuals in an outpatient clinical setting. An avid sports enthusiast, Shirley can often be found running, hiking, swimming and playing tennis. She also enjoys trying out new restaurants, collecting cookbooks and learning how to speak Spanish.
Addison Edwards, MA, EP
Addison has a Master of Arts in Exercise Physiology from San Jose State University and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and Certified Medical Exercise Specialist. She is a member of several professional organizations including the National Strength and Conditioning Association and American Academy of Health, Fitness and Rehab Professionals. Addison also teaches in the Kinesiology Department at California State University Monterey Bay. She enjoys rock climbing and hiking with her husband along with an occasional beach run with their dog.
Eva Giedt, MSN, RN, NP
Eva has a Master of Science in Nursing from University of California San Francisco and is a licensed Psychotherapist. Eva has led numerous wellness groups at SVMHS since 2000. She has dedicated her profession to helping patients discover their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellness and believes that mindfulness is the foundation of her work. She is certified in Hakomi Method of Psychotherapy, Master Medical Qi Gong and is a Reiki Level II, Teacher of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Kabat-Zinn. Eva has a private psychotherapy practice and has shared her passion and education with others by teaching undergraduate and graduate level nursing.
Marissa Gonzalez, CCT
Marissa has been a Cardiology Clinical Supervisor at SVMHS since 2001. She is also a Certified Cardiographic Technician and continues to undertake non-invasive cardiology testing in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. More recently, her role has expanded into assisting the Cardiac Wellness Center team during their highly monitored exercise sessions. Marissa enjoys the opportunity to work closely with patients during their journey to wellness, gaining new and interesting insight with each and every patient she meets. In her spare time, Marissa enjoys going to spins classes and spending time with her family.
Claudia Green, RN, MA, EP
Claudia has a Master of Arts in Exercise Physiology from San Diego State University and is a member of the California Society for Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation. Claudia is passionate about preventative medicine and enjoys assisting patients achieve their personal wellness goals. Claudia had a rigorous collegiate running career and now enjoys hiking, biking and an occasional run while trying to keep up with her teenagers and husband.
Betzi Grogin, BSN, RN
Betzi has over 30 years of experience in nursing, specializing in cardiovascular care. She has been a team member of the Cardiac Wellness Center since 2004 and also divides her time in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit at SVMHS. Betzi is a member of the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation and the California Society for Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation. She is passionate about her job in the cardiac wellness arena because she is able to witness firsthand the changes our patients make once they see their potential through better lifestyle choices. Betzi enjoys traveling with her family, reading, cooking healthy meals and staying fit through running, skiing and yoga.
Sara Housman, RD
Sara received her Bachelor's in Science in Dietetics and Food Administration from California State University, Fresno and went on to complete her dietetic internship through the SDSU Research Foundation WIC Program. She is a Registered Dietitian and provides medical nutrition therapy for both inpatients and outpatients at SVMHS. Her role in the Cardiac Wellness Program involves giving individual nutritional counseling for incoming patients and also teaches our monthly Heart Healthy education classes. She is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group. Sara enjoys the one-on-one connection involved in working with cardiac patients and the collaborative, supportive environment the program provides. Outside of the SVMHS campus, you will most likely find Sara in muddy boots at the barn with her horse or checking out a farmers market looking for fresh produce.
Christianna Kearns, MBA, RDCS
Christi has been with SVMHS cardiology care since 2009 and is the Assistant Director of the Cardiac Cath Lab, Non-Invasive Cardiology and the Cardiac Wellness Center. She has a Masters in Business Administration and a Masters in Healthcare Administration. Christi is a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer and a Certified Cardiovascular Technologist. She is passionate about helping heart patients live healthy lives through diet, exercise and wellness programs. She saw her grandfather survive five heart attacks as a child and frequently accompanied him to visits at the cardiologists office. Christi is dedicated to living a healthy lifestyle herself and is an avid runner, personal trainer and an active member of the American Heart Association, co-chairing the Heart Walk in 2013. She also enjoys eating at local restaurants, wine tasting and learning to cook with her husband, Chef Brian Kearns.
