Coronary Calcium Score

heartAt the Ryan Ranch Center for Advanced Diagnostic Imaging we have been performing safe, high quality Coronary CT scans since 2008.  Our Toshiba Aquilion One, 320 slice CT is able to scan an entire heart in one rotation (one heart beat) exposing patients to 80% less radiation than a traditional 64 slice CT.

Coronary Calcium Score Scan

The Coronary Calcium Score scan can detect the presence of calcium deposits and cholesterol plaque in your coronary arteries before you have symptoms.  Using this diagnostic information our physicians can determine your individual risk of a heart attack in the future.  The entire evaluation, from check-in to departure, takes about 30 minutes.  It's completely painless - no IV's, no special instructions.

The Ideal Candidates for a Coronary Calcium Score Scan:

Men 45 years or older and women 55 years or older with one risk factor:

  • High Cholesterol
  • Diabetes
  • Smoking
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Sedentary
  • Family history of premature heart disease: male relative younger than 55 or female relative younger than 60

Coronary CT Angiography

Coronary CT Angiography has the ability to rule out significant narrowing of the major coronary arteries and can noninvasively detect "soft plaque," or fatty cholesterol that has not yet hardened (calcified).  You will recieve a small amount of intravenous (IV) contrast (dye) during the CT scan which will enable our doctors to visualize your cardiac anatomy, coronary circulation and great vessels.

The Ideal Candidates for Coronary CT Angiography:

  • Patients with intermediate risk profiles for coronary artery disease with suspicious cardiac symptoms
  • Unclear or inconclusive stress-test results
  • Those with suspected congenital abnormalities of coronary arteries
  • In some cases, asymptomatic patients with high risk factors
