More than 38,350 children who do not have dental insurance have received dental care through the CMN Dental Center since 1995, thanks to the dedication of the dentists and hard-working staff at Salinas-based Central Coast Pediatric Dental Group.

Peter Chiang, DDS joined Roger Sanger, DDS, MS and Ray Stewart, DMD, MS in 1990. The trio did their best to serve area children whose families could not afford dental care, but they needed help and approached Children’s Miracle Network (CMN). With a $60,000 donation from CMN, they purchased equipment, increased the number of dentists and established the CMN Dental Center. Every year since, CMN has contributed approximately $25,000 to cover costs not reimbursed by county or state programs and for children who are not enrolled in one of these programs.

Today, the 3,900-square-foot CMN Dental Center includes thirteen dentists and seventeen clinical and support specialists. Together, they serve thousands of children each year, from infants to 19 year olds from Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Benito, Santa Clara, Merced and San Luis Obispo counties.

“The number one reason for school absences, both nationwide and in the counties we serve, is dental disease,” says Dr. Chiang, Managing Partner of Central Coast Pediatric Dental Group and Director of the CMN Dental Center. “It’s rewarding for us to be able to take care of so many children and to teach them good dental habits that will benefit them throughout their lives.”
