Thanks to your generosity, the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) raised a total of $926,028 this year, topping the record to date! Every penny donated is used to support programs and services for thousands of children throughout our region. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Salinas Valley Memorial, immunization programs in Monterey and Santa Cruz counties, and the Mark Velcoff, MD Asthma Day Camp are examples.
Several area businesses sold a record amount of paper balloons this year—Valero gas stations, Rite Aid stores, Bay Federal Credit Union and Costco locations in Sand City, Salinas and Santa Cruz—accounting for nearly $108,000. The annual June telecast on KSBW made us fifth nationwide for total per capita raised, bringing in $86,340 in phone pledges during the six-hour event. The successful RadioThon program on KWAV added $57,500 to this year’s total.
CMN staff and volunteers work all year long and the CMN Funding Committee, comprised of community volunteers, reviews every grant application and determines how funds will be distributed each year. Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System pays for the operating expenses of CMN so that all of your dollars go directly to programs that help children.
“We are so appreciative of the tremendous efforts of our sponsors, media partners, volunteers and donors,” says Kendra Howell, Director Corporate and Community Development for Salinas Valley Memorial. “They make it possible for us to provide more services to more children.”
