Regional Wound Care Center"It is truly a community need,” says Liz Lorenzi, Sr. Vice President/Physician and Business Development. “We are going to see more and more wounds that need special attention.” Chris Cagle, RN, BSN, Clinical Manager

“People with diabetes are at particular risk,” says Chris Cagle, RN, BSN, Clinical Manager of the Wound Management Program. “We use the most advanced therapies available for healing, and we also address the underlying cause of the wound, such as poor nutrition, lack of exercise, or ill-fitting shoes. One of our goals is to prevent reoccurrence.”

The Regional Wound Care Center is located near the hospital at 440 East Romie Lane. It has four fully equipped examination rooms and a staff of certified physicians, registered nurses and other experienced healthcare professionals with specialized training in wound care.

Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital’s Regional Wound Care Center® is being operated in collaboration with Wound Care Centers, Inc, the nation’s pioneer and leader in comprehensive wound management programs. They bring more than 15 years of experience in managing more than 100 centers across the country. “Wound Care Centers, Inc’s wound care healing pathways yield on average a 90% healing rate, a 91% limb salvage rate, and a 95% patient satisfaction rate,” says Chris Thomas, Director of the Wound Management Program. “Utilizing Wound Care Centers’ systematic and coordinated approach, led by a multidisciplinary team of leading physicians, the average healing time for a wound is 34 days.”

“Our medical staff is really excited about this comprehensive approach to wound care healing because it addresses both inpatient wound care and the outpatient treatment of wounds,” says Allen Radner, MD, infectious disease specialist and Medical Director for the Wound Management Program.

The staff of the Regional Wound Care Center works with each patient’s personal physician to determine the most effective course of treatment, to review the patient’s progress and to return the patient to his or her personal physician’s care upon completion of treatment.

“We are excited to have added this important service to our continuum of care,” says Lisa Paulo, RN, MSN/MPA, Director of Clinical Operations. “Not only does the Wound Care Center complement the quality care already available at the hospital, but it fills an important healthcare need in the community. In the past, people may have had to travel long distances to receive this level of wound care. Now we offer the expertise right here in our own community.”
