Website Privacy Policy

Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System (SVMHS) is committed to protecting the privacy of each user of its web site and has created this policy in order to demonstrate our firm commitment to privacy. Because your privacy is so important to us, SVMHS abides by the following principles:

Your Personal Information

SVMHS recognizes your right to confidentiality and is committed to protecting your privacy, including the non-identifying information shared in order to become a registered user of the interactive areas of the site.

We understand that health information can be of an especially sensitive nature and that you may have concerns about sharing medical information. Therefore, SVMHS does not collect personally identifiable information about its users except when such individuals specifically provide such information on a voluntary basis, for example: a user's expected delivery date as part of the Pregnancy eNewsletter registration. A user's access to and use of the SVMHS site constitutes information voluntarily given by the user.

SVMHS will never willfully sell, trade, rent, disclose or make available personally identifiable information about users to any third party without the user's prior consent, except when we believe in good faith that the law requires it or to protect the rights or property of SVMHS.

Registration

It is our policy to respect and protect the privacy of your personal information. Our site contains forms for different uses that ask for contact information (for example: job applications; class registration, donations, eCard applications and newsletter registration). The user's contact information is used to contact the user when necessary. We also gather traffic patterns and site usage information to help us develop the design and layout of the site and to personalize your experience. Your IP address is used to gather broad demographic information. Large population demographics are compiled using this data but no individual information is ever disseminated.

"Cookies"

Like most websites, the SVMHS web site uses pieces of information called "cookies" to keep track of which areas of our site are visited and whether you are a repeat visitor to the SVMHS site. A cookie is a text file that is sent to your hard drive where your browser files are kept. They do not come onto a user's system nor do they pose a threat to a user's files. This enables us to relate your use of the site with other specific information that you have voluntarily provided. It is important to understand, though, that the cookies themselves do not actually contain any personal information. We use cookies to deliver content specific to your interests and to save your password so you don't have to re-enter it each time you visit our site. Users should be aware that SVMHS cannot control the use of cookies by third parties hosting data for the SVMHS site.

Children's Guidelines

The SVMHS web site is intended for people over 18 years of age. Children can only view the material with parental consent as some of the medical information available on SVMHS web site may be inappropriate for young children. Allowing a child to register or use the SVMHS site signifies consent on behalf of the parent.

If you are a parent, please remember that our policy only governs the SVMHS web site. That means that if your child shares personal information with other users during a chat session, on a message board, through email, or by other means, we cannot control how the other individual(s) may use it. For these reasons, we strongly encourage you to talk with your children about being cautious when it comes to sharing personal information online and require that you accompany your children below 18 years of age when they visit our web site.

Your Consent

By using the SVMHS web site, you consent to the collection and use of this information by SVMHS as described above. If we ever change our privacy policy, we will post any changes on this page so that you are always aware of the information that we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances we disclose it.
