The Joint Replacement Center– A Center of Excellence
Get Back To What You Enjoy
Arthritis and chronic joint symptoms affect an estimated 66 million, or one in every three Americans. Arthritis is the most common cause of disability for those over age 15 and is second only to heart disease in causes of work disability. In osteoarthritis, the most common type, cartilage that covers the ends of the bones in a joint deteriorates. As bone rubs against bone, pain increases while comfortable movement decreases. Many people experience pain for years, mistakenly believing that they are too young to suffer from joint problems or that nothing can be done to help. Now, there is help, right here in your local community.
The Joint Replacement Center of Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System offers comprehensive care for people undergoing joint replacement surgery.
And best of all, you can stay close to home, work, family and friends rather than traveling outside of the area for state-of-the-art care.
The Joint Replacement Center, the only Center of Excellence for Joint Replacement on the Central Coast, provides comprehensive, integrated care by a team of highly-trained specialists. The team includes orthopedic surgeons who already perform nearly 300 joint replacement surgeries a year, nurses, physical therapists, radiologists, pain management professionals and case managers. Your care begins the moment you and your physician decide that replacement of a knee, hip or other joint is right for you. You’ll attend a Joint Replacement Orientation where we’ll provide you with a complete overview of what to expect, how to prepare for the surgery and returning home, and other helpful information as well as answer your questions.
Our Joint Replacement Center utilizes a specially-equipped operating suite where surgeons employ the latest in minimally-invasive joint replacement techniques and computer aided surgery (CAS) technologies. These advancements mean a smaller incision, less traumatic surgery, shorter recovery time, less pain and a more speedy return to home and daily activities. In fact, most patients walk the day of or the day after surgery and leave the Center in two or three days; some after just one day.
Today, more people than ever are getting relief from the chronic pain of arthritis or other joint disease and are returning to the activities, career and sports they most enjoy.
