Cardiac Rehab & Fitness Center
Take a tour of the Cardiac Fitness Center
Our on-campus Cardiac Fitness Center offers a comprehensive Cardiac Rehabilitation (Cardiac Rehab) program for people ages 18 and older who are recovering from a heart attack, heart surgery or angioplasty and those experiencing stable angina or congestive heart failure. The program is designed to limit the physical and emotional effects of cardiac illness, reduce the risk for sudden death or another heart attack, control symptoms, stabilize or reverse the disease process, and help patients resume daily activities.
Phase I of Cardiac Rehab begins during the hospital stay. Patient rooms are equipped with on-demand educational programs through "Smart Television" technology. Cardiac nurses assist patients in selecting specific programs they can view at any time, day or night. The programs provide patients with information and ideas on how they can manage and improve their health during and after their hospital stay. Patients are referred to outpatient, or Phase II, Cardiac Rehab by their physicians.
Phase II Cardiac Rehab is an 8 to 12 week individualized program that includes exercise, education and support. Cardiac Rehab provides an important interactive communication for physicians and their patients. Recent studies show that patients who have participated in Cardiac Rehab following a heart attack have a 25 percent reduction in mortality.
