The Regional Heart Program of Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System is a comprehensive, integrated network of specialized services for people with heart disease-from prevention services and sophisticated diagnostics, including Calcification Heart Scoring, to state-of-the-art catheterization and surgical procedures. We perform nearly 3,600 cardiac catheterizations and more than 350 open-heart surgeries each year. And we continue to expand technologically, leading the way in the region and often the state.
The Regional Heart Program includes invasive cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, interventional cardiologists, specially-trained cardiac care nurses and critical care nurses, and other cardiac care clinical and support staff. Emergency Department physicians and staff are trained to identify and initiate immediate treatment for people who come to the hospital with symptoms of a heart attack or other cardiac emergency.
Since 1999, the Heart Program's cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons have conducted clinical training courses for more than 100 physicians from around the country. Physicians receive in-depth, hands-on training in a variety of cardiac procedures including peripheral vascular surgeries and insertion of bi-ventricular pacemakers.
Our Heart Program extends beyond our campus and into the homes of our patients through affiliations with Central Coast VNA and Hospice (CCVNA) and AdvantaCare. Working with the cardiologists and the staff of the Heart Center, these health care partners provide specialized in-home care, medical equipment and medications for heart patients after they leave the hospital.
