NASA
Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System is one of three medical facilities in the world designated by NASA as a 'Virtual Collaborative Clinic'. The virtual Collaborative Clinic application, being developed by NASA Ames Research Center, combines highly sophisticated medical imaging with high-performance, high speed networking. In addition, Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital is the first community hospital to sign a Space Act Agreement with NASA, and the only community hospital designated as a Virtual Collaborative Clinic.
At Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System we're partnering with NASA in these technological developments for patient care. NASA and its Ames Research Center in Mountain View will allow Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System to continue as a leader in high technology medicine through their extended partnership.
VNA
Central Coast VNA and Hospice (CCVNA), an affiliate of Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System, provides specialized in-home care for heart patients after they leave the hospital. Established in 1993, the program serves more than 700 heart patients each year, providing over 13,000 visits into patients' homes.
The VNA Cardiac Care Program utilizes a team approach. Working in concert with the patient's cardiac physician, individual treatment plans are developed to ensure that services flow smoothly from the hospital to home. Cardiac-trained nurses are available 24 hours a day to all areas of the Central Coast to assess chest pain, heart and lung sounds, respiratory difficulties and provide physician-ordered care.
Through collaboration with Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System, VNA offers the Home Telehealth Program. The program uses live video/audio technology installed in patients homes. This allows VNA cardiac nurses to monitor patients between visits. VNA provides reports on the patient's condition, including graphs of vital signs, to the patient's physician. This technologically-advanced program means that patients can be independent while being confident that assistance and immediate care will be provided as needed.
