Shoes RunningSalinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System is committed to helping you live a healthy and active lifestyle.  Exercise Challenge is a FREE 10 week program, open to individuals and organizations in Monterey County, except those which gather solely for the purpose of exercising together, such as an athletic club.

SVMHS wants you, your family, friends and colleagues to participate in regular, aerobic exercise and Exercise Challenge is designed to motivate and encourage you.  A heart healthy exercise program should include at least 30 - 60 minutes of aerobic exercise activity 5 to 6 times a week.  There are progress charts and prizes available to participants. Here are some of the things you should know to get started:

To enter for 2017, individuals/organizations must return the entry form by January 25, 2017.  Workplaces which enter the program are not required to provide time off for their employees to exercise.  An individual or organization may withdraw from the program at any time.  The program begins January 30, 2017 and runs through April 9, 2017.  If it is past the entry form deadline of January 25, 2017, please contact the SVMHS Health Promotion Department at 831-759-1890 to sign up. 

January deadline is for prize and drawing opportunities. You may participate in Exercise Challenge at anytime and register until February 10th to have your totals included in the overall program success!

Once an organization has entered the program, all of its members are eligible to enter, except as specified above.  Individual participants sign up on the Exercise Challenge Progress Chart.  Participants may withdraw from the program at an any time.

Each person participating must exercise at least 150 minutes per week during the 10 weeks to be eligible for drawing prizes.

Only aerobic exercise of at least 15 continuous minutes will be counted.  Examples of aerobic activities include brisk walking, jogging, hiking, swimming, bicycling, tennis or racquetball, basketball, aerobic dancing, jumping rope, rowing, roller skating, rollerblading, stair climbing or skiing and snowboarding.
