Frequently Asked Questions

Are gifts to your organization tax-deductible?
Yes, gifts to the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital Foundation are tax-deductible for the donor. The IRS has granted us 501(c)(3) status.

How do I know how much to deduct for taxes?
In January, tax letters are sent to donors who have donated cumulative gifts of $250 or more in the past year for which no goods or services were provided. Upon request any donor may receive a tax letter.

How much of my gift is tax-deductible?
100% of your cash gift is tax-deductible as long as no goods or services were provided in exchange. For example, if you were a Cherry's Jubilee Sponsor, not all of your sponsorship dollars are tax-deductible.

Will I get a receipt for my gifts?
Yes, we acknowledge every gift received by the Foundation within two days. If the gift given is "in honor of" or "in memory of" someone, a letter is also sent to the person or the family.

Where does my money go?
The money is used for whichever fund you specified when the gift was given. What this means is that the Foundation gives the money to the hospital to use to purchase equipment or improve patient care in the area you specified, such as, the Heart Center or the Norman P. Andresen, MD Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
