Computerized tomography, sometimes called CT scan or CAT scan, obtains image data from different angles around the body. A computer processes these images to show multiple cross-sections of the tissue and organs. Provided through Salinas Valley Memorial's Diagnostic Imaging Department, CT scans play a significant role in the early detection, diagnosis and treatment of cancers and heart disease and help administer radiation treatments for tumors, guide biopsies, and plan surgery.
