Ask The ExpertsAsk The Experts is a FREE community lecture series, offered by SVMHS covering various medical issues. The foundation of any health and wellness program is awareness and education. Our Ask The Experts events take place on a monthly basis and provide either a panel of experts or physicians and individuals with medical expertise on topics of interest. The free events provide the community an opportunity to learn and have their questions answered. All SVMHS Ask the Experts events provide a Spanish language interpreter and listening equiptment upon RSVP. For more information, call the Health Promotion Department at 831.759.1890.

June 10, 2015 - Migraines

An estimated 36 million Americans suffer with migraine headaches. Anyone who suffers knows migraine headaches are painful. These intense headaches can cause nausea, vomiting, vision changes, dizziness and sensitivity to sounds, smells and light, among other things.  Harvard-trained neurologist Patricia Scripko, MD at Salinas Valley Medical Clinic is providing the region with a state of the art headache treatment program, one that includes outpatient services and an intensive inpatient infusion program specifically designed to treat migraines and monitor a patient during treatment.  If you, or someone you know suffers from migraines, please join us for this FREE informational talk with Dr. Scripko.


Patricia Scripko, MD

Patricia D. Scripko, MD joined Salinas Valley Medical Clinic and the medical staff of Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System in August 2014. She is a neurologist specializing in the treatment of headaches, traumatic brain injuries and concussions. Dr. Scripko participates in multiple medical and scientific societies including the American Headache Society, American Academy of Neurology and American Academy of Sciences. Dr. Scripko earned her medical degree from the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University, Ohio. During her time at Case Western, she also earned a master’s degree in bioethics, presenting her thesis at Oxford University. She completed her residency with Partners Neurology; Harvard University, Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston.

Stroke is the most common cause of disability in adults with 795,000 people suffering from a stroke every year in the United States. Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System (SVMHS) physician Ali Sultan-Qurraie, MD will address the issue of stroke prevention and awareness in a FREE Ask the Experts presentation this August.  SVMHS is a Stroke Receiving Center for Monterey County equipped with a special team to provide rapid diagnosis and treatment for stroke patients, designated areas in the hospital with specially trained staff to care for patients with stroke and integrated services from several departments within the hospital.  Please join us for a FREE informational evening with Dr. Sultan-Qurraie.
