SALINAS, CA, April 12, 2013- U.S. News and World Report has named Vincent DeFilippi, MD as a U.S. Top Doctor in its 2012-2013 Best Hospitals issue. DeFilippi is medical Director of the Stanford Cardiac Surgery Program at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital.
The annual recognition is especially significant because other physicians nominate Top Doctors. The peer process determines whom physicians turn to when they want their patients to receive expert care. The U.S. News & World report issue bestowed the added honor on DeFilippi for being recognized among the top 1% in the nation in his or her specialty.
“I am fortunate to have access to the latest technologies and the professional experience to successfully treat patients with serious heart conditions,” says Dr. DeFilippi. “I share this honor with an exceptional team of referring cardiologists, nurses and ancillary personnel. Together we achieve outstanding results.”
DeFilippi has received the honor in years past and continues to remain at the forefront in his specialty areas. He has performed thousands of open heart surgeries, has extensive experience in valve repair and replacement using minimally invasive techniques and pioneered several minimally invasive cardiac surgery procedures. DeFilippi is board certified in cardiothoracic and general surgery and is Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Stanford University.
Earlier this year, the National Institute of Medicine singled out DeFilippi to receive the Award of Honor in the specialty field of Cardiac Surgery. In designating the award, The National Institute of Medicine cited DeFilippi’s professional excellence and humanitarianism. Recently, the collaboration resulting in the Stanford Cardiac Surgery Program at Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare Center was extended until 2016.
