SALINAS, CA, March 1, 2013—Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System today announced Pete Delgado has been named President/CEO.
“This was a unanimous decision by our board,” said Harry Wardwell, president of the Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System board of directors. “Pete Delgado’s impressive background will be a great benefit to our Healthcare System and to our community.”
Delgado was CEO of Los Angeles County and University of Southern California (LAC + USC) Healthcare Network, one of the largest acute care hospitals in America, and the primary teaching facility of the University of Southern California School of Medicine. He was also CEO of Kaiser Health Plan and Hospitals in San Rafael and Santa Rosa; CEO of Columbia Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas; and Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System in San Antonio, Texas.
Delgado received his Master of Science in Hospital Administration from Texas Women’s University in Houston, and he did his undergraduate work at University of Houston, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Healthcare Administration.
The Hispanic Business magazine recognized Delgado as one of the Top 100 Influential People of 2009. He has held board positions on the Hospital Association of Southern California, California Health Care Safety Net Institute, and California Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems.
Delgado will earn a salary of $450,000 per year in his position at the helm of Salinas Valley Memorial. His health and pension benefits will be exactly the same as all other non-affiliated employees at SVMHS. Delgado is expected to join the organization in early April.
