SVMH Board names interim CEO

Lowell Johnson Accepts Temporary Appointment

SALINAS, CA, April 22, 2011: The Salinas Valley Memorial Board of Directors voted to approve terms to appoint an interim CEO to oversee the healthcare system following the retirement of Sam Downing, who leaves the hospital effective April 30th.

Lowell Johnson, FACHE, has agreed to take on the interim position. Johnson specializes in short term assignments, most recently as interim chief operating officer at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View. Salinas Valley Memorial will be Johnson's 30th hospital interim position.

"We believe Mr. Johnson has the skill set needed to lead our healthcare system as we search for a permanent CEO," said Jim Gattis, president of the Salinas Valley Memorial Board of Directors. "He comes to us highly recommended and his leadership will enable us to seamlessly provide quality care while we search for someone to permanently fill the position."

Johnson, who is married with two grown children, resides in Seattle Washington. He will join Salinas Valley Memorial on Tuesday, April 26th, and will live in Salinas during his tenure here.
