Salinas, CA, October 28, 2013 – Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System (SVMHS) is receiving national recognition for its commitment to patient safety. The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit organization has awarded SVMHS an “A” Hospital Safety ScoreTM .

The study analyzes 2,539 general hospitals nationwide and 255 in California, including SVMHS. The Fall 2013 Leapfrog Group Hospital Safety Score assigns A, B, C, D and F grades. Nationwide, 42% of hospitals receive a “C” grade or below.
The Hospital Safety Score is calculated under the guidance of the Leapfrog Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, with a fully transparent methodology analyzed in the peer-reviewed Journal of Patient Safety.
