SVMHS Rated "A" For Patient Safety

Salinas, CA, October 28, 2013 – Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System (SVMHS) is receiving national recognition for its commitment to patient safety. The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit organization has awarded SVMHS an “A” Hospital Safety ScoreTM .

“Of all the quality care awards and advanced accreditations we receive at Salinas Valley Memorial, patient safety is at the core of our service,” says Pete Delgado, president/CEO of Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System. “Our physicians and entire clinical staff put a priority on patient safety. It requires vigilance and unending focus on this top priority to ensure patient safety.”

The study analyzes 2,539 general hospitals nationwide and 255 in California, including SVMHS. The Fall 2013 Leapfrog Group Hospital Safety Score assigns A, B, C, D and F grades. Nationwide, 42% of hospitals receive a “C” grade or below.

The Hospital Safety Score is calculated under the guidance of the Leapfrog Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, with a fully transparent methodology analyzed in the peer-reviewed Journal of Patient Safety.
